America First, bullshit (BS), CNN, CSPAN, Hillary Clinton, Laura Ingraham, Nazi salute, pologod, primary source, Republican National Convention (RNC), research, secondary source, tertiary source, TheSource.com, websites
Here’s a basic lesson in research: If you watched Laura Ingraham’s uninterrupted RNC speech (20 July 2016) on CSPAN, then you watched a PRIMARY SOURCE and used your own brain to decide for yourself. If you listened to CNN’s interrupted coverage of her speech on CSPAN, then you watched a SECONDARY SOURCE and set your brain “in the back seat,” letting the news station tell you their take on what Ingraham said and did on CSPAN. If you read TheSource.com [http://thesource.com/…/talk-show-host-laura-ingraham-gives…/] (see below for full text), then you let that website tell you about what CNN said about what Ingraham said and did, and you read a TERTIARY SOURCE (i.e. BS).
TheSource.com not only does not cite their reference to CNN, so that you can look it up yourself, but they mention “America First” without mentioning a connection between that term and what Ingraham said and did. Furthermore, the article is authored by “pologod” (BS).
It works like the proverbial circle of people in which a first person tells a story to a second person. Then the second person tells what they heard of the story to a third person. It continues until the story gets further and further from the truth (the PRIMARY SOURCE).
The moral of the lesson: Use your brain to think for yourself, and stay as close as possible to PRIMARY SOURCES such as CSPAN. –SAB
That didn’t go over so well. Conservative political commentator and talk show host Laura Ingraham was accused of making what appeared to be a Nazi salute following her speech at the Republican National Convention held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Wednesday, July 20.
It’s unclear what Ingraham intended with the hand motion, and attempts to contact the conservative talk host weren’t immediately returned. And conservatives rushed to her defense, saying it’s absurb that her hand gesture could be interpreted as a Nazi salute. They shared pictures of Hilary Clinton hand gestures that, when captured as stills, appeared to show the same thing.
CNN has reported that “America First” holds an ugly spot in American history, saying it was “the name of the isolationist, defeatist, anti-Semitic national organization that urged the United States to appease Adolf Hitler.”
Not surprisingly, the reaction on social media was swift:
